Course overview

Step behind the scenes and discover the fast-paced world of airport ground operations. This introductory micro-credential gives you a first look at what it’s really like to work on the ground to keep flights moving safely and on time.

From unloading and loading aircraft to coordinating turnarounds, you’ll explore how ground crews operate under pressure in a highly regulated environment.

You'll also learn about the strict health, safety, and security procedures that guide every task — and get a glimpse into the airport "village", where it all comes together like a small city to keep aviation running smoothly.

Our ground operation courses are delivered at various airports & within aviation environments around the motu. While you can't learn and be assessed around live aircraft, we simulate these highly regulated environments, so you learn safely but as closely to the real thing as possible

What you'll learn

In this hands-on micro-credential, you’ll gain essential skills and knowledge to work safely and effectively in airport ground operations.

Learn how to apply key health, safety, and security practices in a highly regulated aviation environment. You’ll develop practical experience in sorting baggage for aircraft, checking and preparing loading equipment, and operating two-way radios for clear communication on the tarmac.

Working as part of a team, you’ll also build awareness of dangerous goods handling in the air cargo environment — a critical part of keeping flights safe and compliant.

Entry requirements

You will be a year 11-13 secondary school student on the course start date, and a NZ Citizen or permanent nz resident.
