Deliver Flying NZ-supported NZQA standards in flight with our support to grow your club.

Partner with us.

Working together we can ignite passion and kick-start careers in aviation, with a focus on aspiring pilots, through co-delivery of our "Take Flight - Introduction to Flight" course. With our support your club can offer secondary school students in years 11-13 a NZQA-recognised aviation course!

Who we've worked with so far...

We have been proudly partnered with Tauranga Aero Club since launching in 2023, Wanganui Aero Club for 2025 and will be launching Take Flight in conjunction with Marlborough Aero Club in 2026. So far we have helped over 60 secondary school students connect with their local Aero Club, earn valuable NCEA credits and learn more about a career in flight!

Flying NZ also recognises that the way JNPAT supports the Aero Club’s Instructor with guidance and ongoing delivery assistance, alongside the quality resources and learner support provided throughout, is a major factor in the strength of the programme, and sets us apart from other Gateway providers.

Generate revenue for your club

Offering this course provides the opportunity to generate revenue for your club while also enabling your instructors to gain valuable teaching experience, increase their own flying hours and for your club to build strong community connections with potential members. "...we noted the difference in approach to course delivery from JNPAT compared to other providers, does more heavily favour smaller clubs who cannot invest the time and resources into developing a programme.."

Gavin Weir
Instructor Council Chairman at Flying NZ, A Category Flight Instructor, Flight Examiner and Chief Flying Instructor at Auckland Aero Club.

"What truly sets JNPAT apart is their commitment to fostering a supportive, culturally grounded learning environment, and to enabling access to meaningful employment in aviation - an industry not historically accessible to many of our communities. Their innovative model integrates secondary school Gateway programmes, new learner pathways, and workplace-based qualifications."

James Churchwood
Chief Flying Instructor, Tauranga

"The Wanganui Aero Club has been working with JNPAT since last year to establish a Gateway programme for secondary students in our region. While we’ve explored similar initiatives with other providers in the past, JNPAT stands out as the best by far. Their Take Flight course offers students an excellent introduction to the aviation industry, including hands-on experience through introductory flights with a qualified instructor. The course is designed to flow naturally into further flight training for students who choose to continue. The training and resources they provide is high quality. We consider ourselves fortunate to be able to work with them to deliver a foundational aviation training program."

Elizabeth Mauchline
Club secutary, Wanganui Aero Club.

"Our students LOVED this course. I felt like it was organised so well, and the tutor & staff at Wanganui Aero Club were so professional and helpful."

EJ Goldsworthy
Career Advisor and Gateway Coordinator at Cullinane College, talking about her experience sending students on our Take Flight course delivered with Wanganui Aero Club.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly does the Gateway "Take Flight" course cover and how is it NZQA recognised?

Take Flight contains NZQA unit standards. When each unit standard is successfully completed the credits from these standards are reported to NZQA (by JNPAT) and go towards the students NCEA results. Take covers principals of flight, aviation terminology, two-way radio communication, aircraft components and safety in the aviation environment.

What type of administration do we need to do as the aero club?

JNP Aviation Training takes care of all marketing, communication, enrolment and credit reporting. You will need to keep us in the know with any absences, and that will easily be done through our attendance app.

Do our instructors need any special qualifications and how much time will they need to commit?

Your Flight Instructors are the perfect people for the role! They are our subject matter experts [SME] that can introduce our students to the world of pilots and aviation. Because, like us, your instructors work in aviation, we are all MOJ checked as per CAA requirements in an aviation environment.

Are there any costs to our Aero Club? How are the courses funded?

These courses are usually funded by a combination of secondary school gateway funding, parents and alternative school funds. The cost covers JNP Aviation Training resources, administration and support, and also covers your instructor time and 2x 20 minute flights per student. All this information is available on our information document, and in our sub-contract agreement between JNP Aviation Training and you, the Aero Club.
