I think taking this course and letting my family know what I’ve learnt is a good thing too
Ruth's first steps into aviation...
Ruth, a proud Tongan student from Tauranga, is a graduate of our Secondary School micro-credential in Aviation Ground Handling ("Take Off"). The eldest of three siblings, Ruth is deeply connected to her culture and family - values that guide everything she does.
“I had no experience related to aviation and airport stuff’ so I felt that taking this course would be a good experience and I would learn new things. Especially because my family hasn't been anywhere near an airport....I think taking this course and letting my family know what I’ve learnt is a good thing too”.
For Ruth, the micro-credential wasn’t just about discovering a new industry; it was about expanding her horizons and inspiring her family along the way.

I had no experience related to aviation and airport stuff so I felt that taking this course would be a good experience and I would learn new things. Especially because my family hasn't been anywhere near an airport.... I think taking this course and letting my family know what I’ve learnt is a good thing too. I was very nervous because I didn't understand much about aviation but after coming to the course more often I just became confident. My favourite experience was going to the Tauranga Airport Control Tower, and the biggest things I gained from JNPAT was the bonds and friendships made in class.
